It would be amazing if we could make one post where we can all list the rules and regulations in our states. Its not like they make it easy to understand. Post the rules for raising game birds in your state. Simplify them if you can.

If game birds follow the same rules as Chickens and other poultry in your state you can list those regulations.

The rules and regulations are not that easy to understand depending on the state and how they present the rules. I was looking for people who have already went through the hassle of researching the rules in their state that would be happy to post a every day persons version of the rules and regulations.

I see there are quite a few posts dealing with specific states but it would be nice to put all that info in one post. Game bird rules & permits for dummies like myself :+)

Imagine how large that thread would be? If you were doing a search for your own state, it could be somewhere in the middle of the thread, and you would have to read the entire post page by page until you found the info you were looking for.

I think this is a great idea. As long as people posting use both the full name and the abbreviation for their state in the post, and no other state names or abbreviations, a simple thread search *should* yield what you are looking for. I wish I had a clue, also, because I'd like to start raising Valley quail, and don't have any idea what the restrictions might be here.

Yea we could make a formula for the HEADLINE of the threads so they are easy to find. Something like..

RPL QUAIL WASHINGTON STATE REGULATIONS PERMITS LICENSES

RPL could be the search term made for people to post with who have already done the research in their area and have some sort of poultry legally.

Or maybe we should just give up and forget about it like the trolls say :+)

Missouri, in my Urban backyard farm!

Well I will help out how I can.
Missouri has some fairly easy regulations.

MISSOURI: Requirement-Hobby Permit $10 yearly: Keeping, raising and propagating Bobwhite quail and ring neck pheasants no more than 50 in the aggregate. For PERSONAL USE ONLY. Cannot sell, give away, or release in the wild.

Requirement-Class I Breeder Permit $50 yearly: Keeping, raising and propagating bobwhite, california valley, gambels, blue scale, and mountain quail, and ring neck pheasant. Properly acquired game bird eggs, carcasses, and meat may be given away or sold at retail.

Here is a link to the regulations: http://www.sos.mo.gov/adrules/csr/current/3csr/3csr.asp Confined Wildlife Chapter 9.

Coturnix Quail of any variety are not regulated and therefore no permit is required.

Hope that this is a start.

I couldn't agree more. Please understand that I am trying to help (part of the solution) when I say there is already a page in BYC that all members can go to that provides a database for poultry. The link is at https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/3/Laws. There is even a search tool for laws that can help a member find laws and ordinances for their community (there are currently 60 links for laws and ordinances in Washington alone).
I'm hoping this assistance I am offering is of some help to somebody.
