Review GALAK-Z: The Void: Deluxe Edition (Switch) - The PS4 Cult Classic Goes Portable
It’s Macross to bear
Last year, Seattle-based developer 17-Bit released GALAK-Z: Variant S, a free-to-play Switch sequel to its much-loved 2015 PS4 game GALAK-Z: The Dimensional. While Variant S was reasonably well-received, its freemium-style timers and more restrictive stages meant most fans of the original felt this Switch follow-up was a...

Guide Best Retro Throwback Nintendo Switch Games - Modern Games With Old-School Style
Scratch that nostalgia itch with these Switch neo-classics
Ah, nostalgia — it's a tricksy thing. How many times have we gone back to revisit a treasured classic only to find that modern games have spoiled it for us? For all the brilliant aspects of retro games, the mod cons and performance we're used to now are pretty fantastic, too, and sometimes...

Guide Best Nintendo Switch Roguelikes, Roguelites And Run-Based Games
Like Rogue?
What are the best roguelikes on Nintendo Switch? When it comes to modern video games, there are few more polarising genre terms. That divisive descriptor draws some players like moths to a flame, while others run a mile at the mere whisper of it. These days, it often feels like 'roguelike' is attached to every other game released. The...

"I’m a lifelong hardcore Nintendo fan"
You could say that Jake Kazdal stands out as he walks the streets of Kyoto on the way to the office of his company, 17-BIT. Thanks to his towering presence and a look that wouldn't be out of place in a metal band, he's not what you would call your "typical" Kyoto-based games developer – but then this is an...

Feature 17-BIT On Galak-Z: The Void, Nintendo Switch And Future Projects
“We are huge fans of the Nintendo Switch”
Like a great many developers, 17-BIT's Jake Kazdal has an affinity with Nintendo. Employed at Sega once upon a time, Kazdal went indie and founded his own outfit – briefly called Haunted Temple Studios – before switching to the name 17-BIT, and releasing the well-received Skulls of the Shogun on the...

About The Game
This critic's choice has been retooled to create the ultimate version for the Nintendo Switch.
'80s spaceship anime and arcade-gaming meld with ultra-modern physics and A.I. in a skill-demanding, procedurally generated rogue-lite adventure! Be the hero in a world that oozes classic Saturday morning anime but plays like a tough, modern, tactical shooter. Try to survive the hostile environments of deep space, battling warring factions full of unique and cunning enemies. Unlock ever more powerful upgrades as you learn the secret of the GALAK-Z, and die and die again as you valiantly struggle to become the ultimate pilot – finally good enough to beat what GALAK-Z throws at you!
- New Mode: The Void allows endless gameplay, Online Leaderboards, and a Daily Challenge
- Advanced enemy A.I. for intense dogfights
- Exclusive Guest Star: Juan from Guacamelee featured as an enemy unit
- Arcade Mode for the faint of heart who don't dare the rogue-lite approach
GALAK-Z is playable in TV mode, Handheld mode, or Tabletop mode and supports HD Rumble, Nintendo Switch Pro Controller, and Joy-Con controllers.

When do you think you'll have a review of this up? I started to buy with the discount for prepurchase, but thought if it's the same as the free game, why am i paying..? Glad to hear the things mentioned in this interview, which makes me glad i didn't spend my last few dollars on it. I'm looking forward to the review, cuz i may buy it in the future since i still play the variant S version.

The artwork for this title was actually done by the late Jason Brookes (SuperPlay magazine and former EDGE editor)
May he rest in peace
